Job summary
We are currently in the process of expanding the Interventional Radiology Suite and we have an exciting opportunity for an Interventional Radiology Nurse or ODP to join our team.
The main role is to administer sedation and to monitor patients undergoing interventional radiology procedures and to support patients before and after their procedure. You will work as part of a multi disciplinary team of Consultant Radiologists, Radiographers and support staff to deliver high standards of care within the IR Service.
The role is required Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am and 6pm to support the needs of the service.

You will need to be highly motivated, enthusiastic, and strive for opportunities for improvement. You will positively affect the experience of patients and carers by providing a high standard of clinical care; we are also looking for an organised individual with excellent communication skills and a positive approach to change. Whether you have specific I.R. experience or not, full support and training will be provided.
The successful candidate will demonstrate high standards of practice with excellent communication, clinical and decision making skills and you will be fully supported to advance your knowledge and develop your clinical competencies in the following areas:
- Surgical scrub technique, assisting with Interventional procedures,
- Administering conscious sedation
- Post procedure recovery care

- Implement and monitor systems and processes to ensure that patient needs are comprehensively assessed, appropriately planned, effectively implemented, and evaluated according to changing health care needs and varying levels of complexity.
- Implement change and best practice in terms of patient flow, by proactive management of interventional radiology sessions ensuring agreed timescales / utilisation is met in accordance with the session schedule.
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team/agencies to ensure that patient needs are met, especially in relation to on-going care needs and discharge arrangements.
- Involve patients, relatives/carers in providing reassurance and support to assist their understanding and co-operation.
- Ensure that the clinical environment is correctly and safely prepared, that the appropriate level of cleanliness is maintained, and that relevant materials and equipment needed for clinical procedures are available and ready for use, including the clearing away and restoring equipment / environment afterwards.
- Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations, ensuring that others do so.
- Collect, collate, and report information, ensuring that patient records / computer systems / documentation are accurate, complete, and legible, and can be retrieved promptly.
- Participate in the Surgical / Anaesthetic on-call rota.
