An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 3 Healthcare Science Assistant to join the Cardio-Respiratory department at Mid Cheshire Hospital Trust.
The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of quality assured cardiology and respiratory diagnostics to support the ongoing development of a community diagnostic centre based at Victoria Infirmary Northwich, presenting an exciting opportunity to work more closely with the primary care setting.
As a member of the Cardio-Respiratory team at Mid Cheshire Hospital, the post holder will have the opportunity to rotate through our Leighton Hospital site, becoming a valuable member of the wider team whilst keeping up a wider skill set.
If full training is required, the successful candidate will be employed into a trainee band 2 role with a view to uplift to a band 3 once all competencies are met.
The service will run 08:00 - 20:00 7 days a week. Hours will be worked on a shift pattern to include weekend and evenings. Part time applicants are welcome to apply but will be expected to participate in evening and weekend duties.
Main duties of the job
An opportunity has arisen to join our busy but friendly Cardio-Respiratory and Vascular diagnostics team. We are looking for an enthusiastic, friendly and professional Healthcare Science Assistant to support our team to provide diagnostic services across Victoria Infirmary Northwich and Leighton Hospital.
The post is full time, but part-time candidates will be considered. The successful candidate will be asked to work weekends and evenings on a rota system as the service develops.
Clinical responsibilities will include the provision of high-quality electrocardiography, ambulatory ECG and blood pressure hook up as well as obtaining and reporting high quality spirometry measurements with and without reversibility. You will also be expected to participate in the set-up and download of overnight sleep studies and will be involved with any future development of the sleep service at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
You will undertake general clerical duties including data entry, appointment and booking amendments, telephone queries, filing and clinic preparation.

To competently perform and interpret quality assured spirometry with and without reversibility to ARTP standards on adult patients in a variety of clinical settings.
To competently perform and analyse overnight oximetry and respiratory sleep studies, training is available to develop these skills if required.
To competently perform and interpret quality assured 12 lead ECGs to SCST standards on adult and paediatric patients in a variety of clinical settings.
To competently hook-up and download ambulatory ECG monitoring for a variety of time periods ranging from 24 hours - 14 days using Spacelabs CF, Sentinel and Novacor ambulatory monitors and software.
To competently perform, download and report ambulatory blood pressure measurements over a period of 24 - 48 hours using Spacelabs Ontrak ambulatory monitors and Sentinel software.
To be responsible for the maintenance of equipment, calibration and verification of measurements and identification of faults, escalating any unresolved faults to a senior member of staff in a timely manner
To make judgements within own area of competence, identifying the correct application of a procedure whilst recognising when to report a problem, concern or contra-indication to testing.
To confidently obtain a brief medical history from patients to ensure all assessments undertaken are done so safely and appropriately.
To liaise with the wider MDT to organise and perform respiratory investigations.
