Job summary
Applications are invited for a Consultant Foot and Ankle Surgeon to join a friendly, supportive, and dynamic Trauma and Orthopaedic department at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful candidate will be based at Leighton Hospital, on the outskirts of Crewe. This location benefits from a great position, surrounded by green fields and close to many charming small towns and villages. The Peak District and North Wales are within easy reach, and there are also good transport connections to Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, and London.
The Trust retained its 'Good' rating by the CQC in April 2020, has a good reputation for research and benefits from some of the very latest clinical facilities.
The Orthopaedic Unit comprises of an 18 bedded elective ward and a 45 bedded trauma ward.
The Trust has undergone a major rebuild of its operating theatres and critical care unit. There are 12 theatres (5 ultraclean) and 16 critical care beds.
There is a purpose-built suite for orthopaedic out-patients, which is exclusively used by the Orthopaedic Department for orthopaedic and fracture clinics. This suite includes a fully equipped plaster room and is adjacent to the Emergency Department, allowing excellent liaison between the two departments.
Main duties of the job
This is a full-time replacement post and is based at Leighton Hospital. The applicant will be encouraged and supported to develop the foot and ankle surgery service at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) and will also be expected to provide support for the trauma service.
The successful candidate will be based at Leighton Hospital in the Orthopaedic Department, Surgery and Cancer Division. In addition, he / she may be required to undertake outpatient clinics at VIN.
The post is offered on a full time, or job share basis, the job plan being intended for a full time appointment with an opportunity to modify this if the post is offered on any other basis.
The successful applicant must have full registration with the GMC and continue to hold a Licence to Practise. The applicant must also be on the Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training.

8.0 PAs on average per week, including 1 PA for on-call. Each Theatre session and Trauma list is remunerated at 1.25 PAs.
2.0 PAs on average per week (1 SPA for private CPD, Audit, Appraisal and Research and a further SPA for Training, Educational Commitments and Service Developments).
The on call commitment for this post will be 1:12 weekends and 1 weekday every 3 weeks.
Include workload figures inpatient and outpatient workload (new and follow up) of the department they are joining and the expectations of the personal workload expected.
If acute on-take duties are part of the job description, there must be specific commitment to post-take ward rounds.
