Job summary

CONSULTANT OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH MEDICINE

Following an establishment review of the Occupational Health Service to align with the health needs of the Trust workforce, Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) is seeking to appoint a part-time Consultant in Occupational Medicine. This is a substantive appointment.

The successful candidate will be employed by Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT). This is a substantive post with the successful candidate joining a team of 10 occupational health professionals, one WTE addition to the team of an Advanced Mental Health Practitioner has been approved by the partner organisations which will improve mental health provision to the organisations.

The post holder will provide services to MCHFT (Leighton, Crewe), East Cheshire NHS Trust (Macclesfield) and The Christies NHS Foundation Trust (Manchester) and external contracts where appropriate.

The post is offered on a part-time basis on 3 Programmed Activities per week. There is the scope for agile working or further discussion about the job plan requirements.

The successful applicant must have full registration with the GMC and continue to hold a License to Practice. The applicant must also be on the Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training.

Main duties of the job

You will ensure that Cheshire OH Service safely delivers its obligations to our partner organizations, their people and our customer organizations.

You will support the OH Service in delivering its ambitious health and wellbeing agenda and aim to become a social prescribing model of healthcare for our people.

You will promote and assist in maintaining the physical, psychological and social wellbeing of our people.

You will be the recognized expect on all Occupational Health clinical matters and be educational resource for the OH service clinicians and Trust managers

About us

THE OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT, CORPORATE DIVISION

The Occupational Health Service is a collaborative service and is hosted by Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The service sits within the Corporate Division of Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as part of the Workforce Directorate. The governance arrangements for the service are managed under Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The Occupational Health Service is fully SEQOHS accredited (since April 2012)

The hub of the service is based at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Leighton Hospital) with clinics also being delivered at Macclesfield District General Hospital and The Christies NHS Foundation Trust.

The Occupational Health Department also services a small number of clients in the private and public sectors. Staff who belong to these organisations are seen at either Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Leighton Hospital) or Macclesfield District General Hospital; however, most assessments for both host organisations and contracts are undertaken remotely.

  • Provide a leading role in the delivery of occupational health services including information on absence, disability, and fitness for work to the line manager and Workforce for all employees suffering injury or illness
  • Provide expert advice on health surveillance as determined by Trust policy and legislation
  • Work cooperatively within the department and with other hospital and medical staff and local Integrated Care Systems (ICS) to improve the standards of occupational health within the Trust
  • Obtain specialist reports and liaise with GPs, treating specialists, hospital services and other health providers in the area
