Band 7 Occupational Therapist
Discharge Team 18.75 hours (job share)
Due to significant new investment within Therapies, we are excited to be advertising posts for a new Discharge Assessment Response Team (DART). The main focus of this new team will be to support the Trust's priority of reducing length of stay, facilitating early discharge and improving patient flow, as well as timely responses to requests from senior management.
One of the main priorities for this new team will be to ensure patient centred care and patient satisfaction.
You will be expected to lead the development of this fledgling service, along with the Band 7 Physiotherapist within this new team. A generic Band 4 will complete the DART team who will work alongside the established wider Therapy Team.
The post holder will need be motivated, dynamic and committed to this post, and have proven expertise within in-patient Occupational Therapy and complex discharges. Promoting the service within the Trust will be vital to its success and requires proven advanced communication and interpersonal skills.
Every effort will be made to accommodate special interests and all staff will be involved in Professional/Peer group meetings with opportunities for continuing professional development.
Main duties of the job
Key Objectives
- To develop and promote a clinically effective new therapy discharge team
- To provide expert knowledge of complex and timely early discharges
- To develop effective discharges pathways working closely with the wider MDT, community services and external agencies.
- To provide education and support to the wider service
- To react to daily bed pressures within the organisation
- To audit and disseminate findings of this service development.
Formal training and experience of leading a team, service development and audit is essential.

- To undertake highly specialist clinical assessment, taking into account all relevant information and clinical reasoning to formulate evidence based individualised treatment plans in agreement with the patient.
- To take the lead for clinical audit and research within a highly specialist field of practice, developing clinical practice and treatment outcomes.
- To actively contribute innovate ideas and lead on the development and implementation of service improvements
- To contribute to the development and delivery of service objectives, leading on designated projects
- To lead the recruitment of new junior and assistant staff, as delegated by the team leader, including the planning and delivery of the induction programme
