CONSULTANT BREAST RADIOLOGIST

Applications are invited for a Consultant Breast Radiologist at MCHFT. The successful candidate will join a team of 14 Consultants in the Radiology department based at Leighton Hospital, Crewe.

The post is offered on a full time basis with an opportunity to modify if offered on any other basis.

The post will provide the successful candidate with an opportunity to pursue either a sole breast imaging career or to combine this discipline with other imaging interests.

The Breast service is an integral part of the Imaging Department and provides screening services within the NHSBSP alongside a local symptomatic provision. The standalone unit has new digital Siemens Mammographic equipment and Toshiba Ultrasound. MR breast imaging is provided locally using our newly installed MR scanners. Expertise in areas outside breast imaging will be encouraged as there is a wide spectrum of opportunities to participate in other sub-specialties if desired.

The successful candidate will compliment a dynamic team of 14 Consultant Radiologists within the Medical Imaging Department at Leighton Hospital, which sits as part of the DCSD. The department has a track record for clinically led innovation with long standing well established services in CT Colonography, Small Bowel MRI, Cardiac CT and Cardiac MRI.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to provide a breast screening and symptomatic service and also helping with cross sectional imaging.

The post holder will participate in a 1 in 13 on-call Rota, which is partially supported by Specialist Trainees. A remote reporting service for CT operates independently from the on-call radiologist between 20:00-09:00 hours during the week and from 17:00-07:00 hours at the weekend.

The department uses Carestream PACS and has implemented home reporting to support remote reporting sessions and MDT preparation to increase the flexibility of agreed job plans.

The Medical Imaging Consultants form a cohesive team, and the appointee will need to be an excellent team player and offer flexibility. The post holder will be expected to participate in the operational management and strategic planning of the department.

This is a new post to support the increasing demand for breast imaging and cross-sectional imaging. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and cohesive team of Consultant Radiologists within the Medical Imaging Department at Leighton Hospital, which is part of the Diagnostic and Clinical Support Services Division.

The Trust uses Sunquest ICE electronic order comms system. Radiology uses a Soliton RIS system (soon not be replaced with Wellbeing CRIS ) and Carestream PACS. All radiological exams are reported using Carestream PACS. Together these have enabled us to become a paper light department. We have also recently implemented remote reporting sessions from home to increase job plan flexibility.

On call is via Teleradiology from Consultants homes and partially supported by trainees. Emergency CT between 2000 and 0700 during the week and between 1700 and 0700 at the weekends is outsourced and reported by an external provider.

Applicants must have full registration with the GMC including a License to Practice and be on the Specialist Register (or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training).
