Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Medical Engineering Department at Alder Hey Childrens NHS FT for an Entry Level Medical Engineer.
This is a Permanent post within the Mechanical Workshop, working closely with the Senior Engineers and other healthcare professionals to contribute to providing a safe and effective equipment management service.
As a member of a multi-disciplined team of technicians you will be required to work with minimum supervision. Duties will include the routine maintenance of medical equipment.
An onsite Practical skills test is a Mandatory requirement of the Interview process. Please DO NOT apply if you cannot facilitate this requirement.
Main duties of the job
Possess a relevant Level 3 qualification in an Engineering related subject and equivalent experience in the maintenance of highly complex Medical Devices.
To commission, repair, maintain, overhaul and recalibrate a wide range of medical equipment including patient monitoring, IV Therapy, patient therapy, diagnostic, medical gas, pathology, radiology, pharmacy equipment used within the medical field.
To work regularly on equipment, which may be 'patient connected', in areas including Intensive care and HDU, theatres, and equipment in the home environment as well as being able to work across the whole range of specialities and disciplines.
To work on medical devices that will require precision engineering techniques, expertise and a high level of manual dexterity which requires skills such as soldering, crimping etc.
To complete all documentation, including safety tests, fault history and commissioning records. To input this information to the Trust medical equipment management system.
To attend training courses and to update one's own technical knowledge of specialist equipment and to update one's knowledge in respect of the specialised paediatric clinical use of such equipment.
To participate in an annual performance review and develop a Personal Development Review with the consultation of the line manager.
