AKI Nurse Specialist

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a nurse to work alongside the lead acute kidney injury (AKI) consultant and develop a new AKI nursing service within the trust.

The post holder will be working under the supervision of the advanced nurse practitioner (ANP), to provide support to the lead consultant for AKI in managing the AKI caseload across the trust. The post will enable the individual to develop enhanced knowledge, skills and competence in managing the care of children and families within the caseload.

Main duties of the job

Working under the supervision of the ANP in the Nephrology service the post holder will:

Provide a specialist outreach AKI service to inpatient areas within the Trust under the supervision of the Lead Consultant for AKI.

Be responsible for providing a high level of expertise within the specialist service, providing specialist advice, education and support to health care professionals, patients and their carers within the Trust

Undertake audits and implement appropriate action plans to reduce the incidence of AKI and ensure appropriate follow up of patients with AKI.

Be responsible for the on-going development of the AKI service, research and standards of care within the service and the development of policies, protocols and procedures.

  • Renal course qualification
