Job summary

To function as a senior clinical practitioner within the Liverpool Neonatal Partnership based in both LWH and AHCH demonstrating advanced knowledge and clinical skills in both medicine and surgery

Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care for the neonate in partnership with the family in high dependency and intensive care nurseries

Responsible for co-ordinating, supervising and supporting the neonatal staff within an identified clinical area

Responsible for supervising and mentoring junior staff, basic and post basic students within the Neonatal service

To act as room leader (on LWH site)

To act as shift leader as required on a rotational basis

Main duties of the job

  • Admit infants to the Liverpool Neonatal Partnership adhering to service guidelines
  • Assess plan implement and evaluate program of care for a caseload of infants in partnership with the parents and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Effectively delegate, co-ordinate and manage the clinical area and provide care for own caseload of infants with complex and differing medical and surgical needs
  • Offer support and guidance to less experienced colleagues in the clinical area
  • Co-ordinate, prioritise and delegate during emergency situations
  • Prioritises and manages a varying and unpredictable workload effectively
  • Administer medicines and intravenous drugs, calculate, prepare and administer complex intravenous infusions according to service guidelines
  • Deliver care to the critically ill neonate and family, including managing the withdrawal of intensive care treatment and/or the management of the dying neonate and the family.
  • Responds promptly and appropriately in an emergency situation and is able to support less experienced colleagues during a crisis
  • Manages situations which are difficult, distressing and emotionally demanding
  • Safely use all relevant neonatal equipment in the clinical area
  • Utilise specialist knowledge to initiate and adapt care in complex and
  • Attend to the delivery of an infant / transfer from theatres with complex needs and safely transport to NICU
