Job summary
Alder Hey are offering an exciting opportunity to join the orthopaedic department at Alder Hey. The department is one of the largest group of dedicated children's orthopaedic surgeons in Europe and enjoys international acclaim.
The team are looking to appoint a full time paediatric orthopaedic surgeon with an interest in Ponseti and complex hip pathologies including DDH and adolescent hips. Applicant will be expected to participate in on call which is a one in 8 weekday and one in 10 weekend.
Start date will be 2026 date tbc.
Main duties of the job
It is envisaged that this post will attract 10 programmed activities per week (8.5 PA direct clinical care and 1.5 PA supporting professional activities) As per Trust Policy for new consultants Increases beyond 1.5 SPA, in respect of appropriate activities can be negotiated by mutual agreement following annual job planning reviews.

At present the on call commitment is 1 in 8 week day and 1 in 10 weekend.

The sessions maybe able to be adapted following discussion and extra sessions are available by mutual agreement between the Trust and the successful candidate. If successful appointee is required to do outreach clinics then travel time and administrative time will be included in their job plan and appropriate PAs allocated.
Regular job planning meetings will be undertaken with the post holder to ensure that theappointee is remunerated for any additional activities undertaken and that the job planaccurately reflects the overall workload undertaken by the post holder.
Teaching & Academic roleParticipate in the teaching and training of undergraduates and postgraduates.Develop research interests in their area of interest and expertise.
Managerial responsibilitiesSupervise junior staff.Participate in departmental meetings related to strategic planning.Take an active role in service review and development
