Job summary

The candidate will be working alongside the infant feeding team and willassist with the planning, implementation, maintenance, and reaccreditation of UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) standards across Alder Hey Children's Hospital. This role includes combining the education and training of clinical and support staff with expert direct clinical care. The post holder will provide professional support, expert knowledge, and advice on infant feeding. Additionally, they will conduct audits and action planning to monitor and measure the implementation of best practice standards.

Main duties of the job

Provide expert advice and contribute to the development of all who come into contact with mothers with regard to the skills and knowledge needed to promote, support and protect breastfeeding and breast milk feeding or other chosen feeding methods.

To work in partnership with women and their families, medical/surgical team, and other agencies to ensure optimum care. Contribute to infant feeding network meetings when appropriate.

Respond to referral system for specialist information/support required in all inpatient areas and ED

Utilise highly developed communication skills which include receiving and delivering complex and emotive information which may challenge practice.

Fully adopt the work of the BFI across the hospital setting with an aim to achieve and maintain the BFI award, preparing staff fully for any assessments.

Support the infant feeding team in delivering any educational sessions on infant feeding

Have an active involvement in the auditing process and implementing measures to make improvements

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care of mothers and babies in accordance with the Trust's policies and guidelines.
