Job summary

To provide comprehensive clerical support for the ward. To retrieve/prepare all relevant documentation for the ward staff. To ensure accurate and timely data input on to the hospital PAS system for all admissions, discharges and transfers. To ensure all relevant documentation is filed into medical records folder.

Main duties of the job

Meet and greet patients and families on to ward, ensuring patient details are correct and verifying with GP surgery when necessary. Using smartcard to access the National Spine to verify patient demographic details and NHS numbers when required.Retrieve/prepare all relevant documentation for ward admissions.To process all admissions, discharges and transfer of patients using the hospital information system (Meditech) in real time and print off ward list.Ensure case notes are kept in good order, attaching all necessary documentation to correspond with patient's admission/transfer/discharge.Prepare the in-patient trolley for ward rounds, ensuring all relevant documentation is available where applicable.Ensure specialist records/audits are retrieved from hospital notes on discharge and sent to relevant department where applicable.
