Job summary

JOB PROFILE

The Housekeeper will assist ward staff in the delivery of a high quality service to children and their families. Duties will include general housekeeping, ward maintenance, monitoring and any other related duties at the discretion of the ward manager in line with the ward requirements. This will be a supportive role aimed at promoting a positive hospital experience for our patients and their families.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

  • Participate in maintaining cleanliness of the ward environment in relation to Infection Prevention Control working closely with the Ward Manager.
  • Participate in resource management with effective stock controls systems.
  • Participate in patient/parent ward based satisfaction surveys.
  • Ensure water outlets are flushed daily and logged on the compass syste

RESEARCH

  • Participate in research projects established within the Unit/Trust to promote evidence based practice.

Job responsibilities

  • To keep the ward tidy and clutter free at all times, promoting an environment that is safe and pleasing for patients and parents. To inform the nurse in charge of any problems.
  • To organise and co-ordinate any necessary maintenance or repairs, documenting any reported issues and remedial action taken.
  • To be aware of stock levels for clinical and non-clinical items, ensuring that ward supplies are appropriately stored and that stocks in clinical areas are at adequate levels.
  • To organise the compilation of patient menu requirements, requesting meal choice and liaise with the ward chef regarding these and any special dietary requirements.
  • To take day to day responsibility for the parents room, ensuring that it is tidy and welcoming.
  • To meet and great new patients to the ward and familiarise them with ward environment, visiting hours, etc.
  • To prepare bed tables for meals. Give assistance to patients before meals i.e. washing hands.
  • To assist with serving of meals, clearing dishes away, and tidying of pantry, load dishwasher,

  • To monitor and record food waste and discuss with ward chef.
  • To be responsible for recording fridge temperatures and ensuring that food storage, preparation and service meets the health and safety guidelines.
  • To adhere to Health and Safety Act in relation to basic food hygiene requirements
