Job summary

The Neurology team at Alder Hey has created a new role designed to help support the clinical team in managing planning patient care.

The team have complex pathways for patients requiring investigation and admission for treatment. This will help the team to free up time for the clinical team to spend on patient care, but also improve the communication with families.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of this role are:

  • Co-ordination of booking investigations and admissions
  • Organisation of Specialist Clinics
  • Complete and upload data to local and national databases
  • Support audit and other quality improvement projects
  • key point of contact for families

About us

Although this role is specific to one of the clinical teams in neurology, the post holder will work as part of a wider clerical and administrative team in neurology, working together to ensure the service runs well for staff and families.

Job responsibilities

Key Relationships

  • Working closely with Lead Clinicians and other MDT members including nurses, AHPS and administration team
  • Working closely with extended MDT members to ensure effective communication pathways to support the patient pathway
  • Work with clinical support services to ensure investigations are received in appropriate time frames.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To work closely with the Team Lead, Clinical Teams, non-clinic teams and Diagnostic Services to ensure patients are actively managed through the Neurology / Neuromuscular Pathway.
  • To monitor patients pathways from referral, through diagnostics, treatment planning and treatment, highlighting any potential delays in the pathway and ensuring accurate data collection to support the process and report to clinical offices and clinical teams any discrepancies
  • To ensure that appropriate requests for investigations are monitored following the clinicians instructions. If diagnostic delays occur or appear imminent liaise with the relevant service for action.
  • To support the division in implementation of robust follow-up tracking, ensuring no patient is ever lost to follow up
  • Planning of appropriate investigations ahead of clinic appointments and communications with parents.
  • Co-ordinating elective admissions for patients including those attending day case for planned treatments.
  • To liaise with other departments

Essential

  • GCSEs English and Math's or equivalent qualification or equivalent experience

Desirable

  • European Computer Driving License (EDCL)

Knowledge
