Job summary

This appointment is for a General Consultant Paediatric Radiologist with a special interest in musculoskeletal imaging to join the team at a busy tertiary Children's Hospital.

Main duties of the job

Duties

The Diagnostic Paediatric Radiologists at Alder Hey cover all aspects of paediatric radiology including plain film reporting, ultrasound, fluoroscopy and CSI reporting and support Alder Hey's wide range of tertiary and quaternary services.

Alder Hey is a Major Trauma Centre and delivers tertiary care in Orthopaedics and Rheumatology as well as a national second opinion reporting service for imaging in suspected inflicted injury.

The new appointment will join 2 Consultant Radiologists with an interest in Musculoskeletal Imaging and will help to support the Orthopaedic and Rheumatology MDT Meetings.

Non vascular interventional radiology skills are also desirable.

You will be expected to work flexibly according to changes in work patterns and requirements and will be required to participate in the consultant on-call rota (1:10 on call).

Teaching & Academic role

There will be opportunities to participate actively in training the rotating Specialist Registrars in Radiology, and in Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching.

Managerial responsibilities

Supervise junior staff.

Participate in departmental meetings related to strategic planning.

Take an active role in service review and development

CPD, Audit & Clinical Governance

Participate in CPD activity

Initiate and undertake appropriate audits

Take part in the clinical governance programme

An outline of a typical weekly timetable of programmed activities is as follows, but this will be flexible depending on service needs, the availability of other staff, and the special interests of the appointee.

At least 8.5 sessions of DCC to ideally include:

1 session for external second opinion reporting

1 session for general on call

  • Full GMC registration, licence to practice and specialist registration in Interventional Radiology (or eligible for or within 6 months of eligibility for)
  • Primary medical degree
  • -MRCPCH/MRCP or equivalent degree
  • -CCT or within 6 months of CCT (or equivalent)

Desirable

  • -DCH, DCCH, MBA or other relevant diplomas
