Health Play Specialist Apprentice Job Advert
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health Play Specialist Apprentice to join our Therapeutic and Specialised Play Service at Alder Hey Specialist Children's Hospital. You must be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and have the ability to support others. It is essential that you can prioritise and manage your own workload whilst supporting your colleagues and the multi-disciplinary team. Excellent knowledge of child development is essential, as is experience of working with a wide range of ages.
The successful candidate will work closely with children/young people and their families and strive to make the hospital journey as pleasant as possible. The post holder must be able to provide Play Service input and support, specialised and therapeutic, normalising/developmental and sensory play and deliver preparation and distraction for our children and young people.
The Health Play Specialist, (HPS) is a qualified & registered professional with expert knowledge and experience of play with the well child/young person and with the sick child/young person. She/he is a fully integrated member of the Health Professionals Team. The Health Play Specialist Apprentice will work within the Play Service and ward/department team but also she/he will work independently using their own initiative, organisation, leadership and time management.
This is a 27 months fixed term training post of 37.5 hours per week.
Main duties of the job
This is an Annex 21 post. 65% of the top of Band 4 for the 1st year (which equates to £17,937), 70% of the top of band 4 for the 2nd year (which equates to £19,317) and then 75% of the top of band 4 for the 3rd year (which equates to £20,697). Apprenticeship roles are paid in line with Annex 21 of the terms and conditions at between 60-75% of the maximum point on the pay band. The minimum hourly rate will match the national living wage.
As this is an apprenticeship position, this role is supported by an accompanying knowledge and skills development programme during which the post holder will gain the relevant knowledge, skills and behaviours for this role. Learning will be delivered in the workplace through formal on and off the job training; allowing for the opportunity to practise new skills within a real working environment. On successful completion of the apprenticeship, the individual will have the right knowledge, skills behaviours they need for their chosen role.

Applicants must possess and evidence a childcare qualification level 3 or equivalent.Evidence of this qualification must be submitted prior to interview and if not submitted, this will result in applicants not being offered an interview. Statements of results will not be accepted.
English & Maths qualifications:
Applicants must be able to evidence that they already hold Level 2 Maths and English or equivalent qualifications (i.e. GCSEs grades A*- C/9 4, A-levels, Level 2 Maths and English Functional Skills). Evidence of these qualifications must be submitted prior to interview and if not submitted, this will result in applicants not being offered an interview. Statements of results will not be accepted.
Applicants must ensure that the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of caredelivery. The post holder will work practically within their clinical area/team, taking responsibility for the delivering appropriate Play Service input and support on a day-to-day basis.

The HPS will ensure accurate documentation of play therapy interventions carried out with the patient in a timely manner.
As a member of the play service the HPS will be responsible for the promotion of the play service within the trust.
The HPS will demonstrate & promote the values of Alder Hey NHS Foundation Trust.
