Job summary

We are excited to be looking to recruit a highly motivated, organised and positive individual to support our Community Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Service in North Sefton!

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Community Physiotherapists and OTs by providing therapeutic intervention and the independent provision of therapy management plans set out by therapists. They will be responsible to manage and coordinate equipment provision processes across the service and assist the occupational therapist and physiotherapist in the assessment of new equipment.

Our service supports children aged 0-18 (19 in special schools), who have a neuro-impairments, developmental delay, motor/functional difficulties and/or musculoskeletal conditions. We have a large team which includes OT assistants, physiotherapy assistants, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and other secretarial staff. The successful candidate will work closely with all colleagues.

There is an in-service training programme with lots of opportunities for supervision and peer support. We have strong links with staff in acute services at Alder Hey and work in an integrated way with education and socials services colleagues across Sefton.

Main duties of the job

To provide a high standard of paediatric occupational therapy and physiotherapy working without supervision, following and progressing treatment plans set out by the occupational therapy and physiotherapist.

To assist in the provision of a high standard of paediatric occupational therapy and physiotherapy care in a variety of community settings, working with children aged 0-19 years with a variety of conditions and needs including neuro disabilities, developmental delay, learning disabilities.

To take a lead Assistant Practitioner role across the service, supporting the needs of the children known to the occupational therapy and physiotherapy service.

To take a lead in the management and review of specialist equipment, to be able to identify changes in the child's presentation and actions needed to address this, including escalation as appropriate to the therapist. To support the occupational therapist and physiotherapist in the assessment of new equipment.

To assist and participate in the provision of hydrotherapy in the community.

To take a lead role in the training of newly appointed occupational therapy and physiotherapy assistants in basic elements of patient care, safety and inducting them into the department. To provide support to other assistants across the service.

  13. To support the delivery of any workshops or training to parents, carers and other professionals.
  14. Contribute to patient care by attending relevant team, departmental or other appropriate meetings and participate in the discussion on recommended changes to clinical care or service provision.
  15. Attend multidisciplinary clinics as the occupational therapist/physiotherapy representative for individual children as delegated by the therapist. E.g. Orthotics clinics.
