Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Named Doctor Safeguarding children, young people, and adults at risk for our Safeguarding Service which is part of the Community and Mental Health Division.
As the Named Doctor you would be expected to display excellent leadership and organisational skills, work closely with a variety of different professional teams across Trust and wider agencies, develop and mentor staff within the team and work alongside the Associate Director Safeguarding & Statutory Services and Service Manager to ensure that the service continues to provide the highest standards of care.
The Named Doctor Safeguarding is expected to fulfil the competencies outlined in the model job descriptions provided in the Intercollegiate Documents for Adult Safeguarding: Roles and Competencies for Health Care Staff and the Safeguarding Children and Young People: Roles and Competencies for Healthcare Staff.
You will work collaboratively with the Associate Director Safeguarding & Statutory Services and Service Manager focussing on service development, clinical standards, and quality improvement across the whole service. Expected to provide expert clinical advice both within service and to external partners, lead on the coordination of care and treatment for highly complex individuals, provide clinical supervision to clinicians within the service, undertake clinical audit and use audit findings to influence improvements in quality standards.
Main duties of the job
Named Doctors have a key role in promoting good professional practice within their organisation, providing advice and expertise for fellow professionals, and ensuring safeguarding training is in place. Works in partnership with the Named Nurse for Safeguarding and Associate Director Safeguarding & Statutory Services to:
- Develop strong internal safeguarding policies, guidelines, and protocols.
- Effectively communicate local safeguarding knowledge, research and findings from audits, challenge poor practice and address areas where there is an identified training/development opportunity
- Conduct safeguarding training needs analysis, and to commission, plan, design, deliver and evaluate single and inter-agency training and teaching for staff within the Trust.
- Undertake and contribute to serious safeguarding reviews such as Single Agency Reviews, Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews, Domestic Homicide Reviews, Safeguarding Adult Reviews and Child Death Reviews, and undertakes chronologies, and the development of action plans approach where appropriate.
- Provide advice and information about safeguarding to the Trust, both proactively and reactively - this includes the board, directors, and senior managers.
- Provide safeguarding supervision and lead or ensures appropriate reflective practice is embedded in the organisation, to include Peer Review.
- Understands the role and procedures of Coroner's Courts, Court of Protection and regulators professional bodies.
