Job summary
Department of Developmental Paediatrics based in Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust are looking to appoint a Consultant in Developmental Paediatrics to work as a part of a Consultant Led Neurodevelopmental Service. The department is going through an exciting period of change and modernisation and the post provides an opportunity to help shape the new service, particularly with the new Alder Hey Children's Hospital site and our new Neuro Developmental Centre (Catkin). The consultant will have the exciting opportunity to develop the service further. Although the post is full time, part time/job share can be considered.
The appointee will join an expanding team of sixteen Consultants and six SAS doctors working in Neuro-disability and Neurodevelopment, social and educational paediatrics and Safeguarding covering North Mersey (Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton).We are seeking a colleague who has relevant experience in clinical management of children including Neurodevelopmental/Neuro-disabling disorders, emotional, behavioural and attachment difficulties and safeguarding children. There is an opportunity to develop a special interest in Developmental Paediatrics or within Statutory services should the post holder wish to do so.

Main duties of the job
It is envisaged that this post will attract 10 programmed activities per week - 8.5 PA clinical and 1.5 core SPA (as per Trust Policy for new consultants) increases beyond 1.5 SPA, in respect of appropriate activities can be added or negotiated by mutual agreement following annual job planning reviews.
The post holder will share with the Developmental Paediatric Patch Team, clinical responsibility for referrals from Primary Care, other Consultants within the Trust, Child Mental Health and Social Services/Education. Allowing for flexibility according to the skills of the successful applicant, the responsibilities will be as follows:
Clinical work will be particularly around:
- Safeguarding, contributing to the 2nd on safeguarding rota.
- Assessment and management of children with developmental delay.
- Assessment and management of children with Neurodevelopmental disorders, genetic conditions, complex Neurodisability.
- Assessment and diagnosis of ADHD and ASD working jointly with ADHD/ASD Specialist Nurse and pathways. Prescribing and monitoring medications for children with a diagnosis of ADHD.
- Close working with multi-disciplinary and multi-agency teams. Development of pathways and protocols to improve care for children with complex Needs.
