Job summary
We are seeking a passionate, enthusiastic, dynamic, and experienced Manager to work with us to improve the care and experience of Children with suspected and diagnosed cancer in Cheshire and Merseyside. Importantly, this individual will help to ensure that cancer care of all patients within the Trust is of a high standard, equitable and consistent and that national targets are met.
The role is a senior leadership position requiring project and change management and service improvement skills as well as operational experience. The post includes close working and collaboration with both internal and external partners such as clinical and operational teams, commissioners, patients, and carers to deliver improvements and ensure optimal operational management of services.
The post holder will act in an autonomous capacity and be required to consistently operate with political awareness and personal influence, representing Children's Cancer Services and the Trust at various internal and external forums, including the North West Children's Cancer Operational Delivery Network (NWCCODN) and the Cheshire and Merseyside Clinical Quality Group (CQG).

Transformation and Project Management
- Deliver transformation programmes and projects in partnership with local, regional, and national stakeholders and partners.
- Engage all stakeholders to ensure delivery of the approved Cheshire & Merseyside Cancer Alliance (CMCA)/Alder Hey Children's Project Initiation Document and all objectives within, including regional work across Cheshire and Merseyside
- Actively engage and collaborate with partner Trusts to support high quality delivery of Children's Cancer Services across Cheshire & Merseyside, developing and leading on delivery of projects to ensure improvements are delivered and benefits realised.
Cancer Services Management
- To provide day-to-day management of services, including Cancer KPIs, liaising effectively with clinical and operational leaders.
- Develop clear understanding of key performance indicators and activity metrics relevant to the cancer service within Alder Hey but also at the shared care units
- Responsible for proposing and implementing local cancer policies and standard operating procedures aligned to national guidance and pathways.
- Attend and present at Trust-level performance meetings.
- Work with the CMCA project manager and Head of Performance on transformation projects relating to performance

Staff Management
- Ensure managed staff maintain personal compliance with all relevant Trust Policies and Procedures
- Ensure staff are recruited in line with Trust Policies and Procedures
- Manage the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) Coordinators and Quality Managers within the Cancer Services.
Risk and Governance
- To work with trust Cancer leads to develop robust Governance arrangements, ensuring that systems and processes are established and followed.
- To maintain a culture which supports the delivery of the Quality and Safety Agenda, using evidence-based practice and research to support change.
- Work with cancer leads to implement the Trusts risk management strategy across cancer services, identifying and acting upon high risks within service areas.
- Ensure learning is shared with the wider team and promote team learning wherever possible.
- Lead on informal and formal investigations where appropriate, in line with Trust policies and procedures; including the completion of risk assessments.
- Lead on Freedom of Information requests relating to cancer services; in accordance with the legislation.
- To take a proactive approach to responding to and in maintaining compliance with statutory obligations, NICE guidance, NHS standards and Care Quality Commission and any consequent or subsequent standards or bodies.
- To work with senior manager, clinicians, and executives to investigate complaints and ensuring that opportunities to learn from incidents are maximised and implemented, including complaint resolution, risk reporting systems and user feedback.

Financial Management
- To ensure that service improvement projects are delivered within financial budgets and contingencies, monitoring revenue and capital variance from start to finish.
- To ensure robust systems of governance (clinical, financial, staff, audit and information) and risk management are in place.
- Preparation of Business Case documents incorporating service change, revenue or capital requirements as appropriate and according to the NHS Capital Investment Manual guideline.
- Manage any budgets linked to programmes you are leading on effectively and in line with the Trusts financial governance framework.
