Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the PACS team at Alder Hey Childrens Hospital and Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital. We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive person with good IT skills keen to develop themselves as PACS Administrator focusing on all aspects of PACS and associated systems management at the hospitals. Training and mentorship will be provided on an ongoing basis.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide comprehensive systems management support for the users of PACS and associated systems at Alder Hey Children's Hospital and Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital. This will include providing user guidance, systems maintenance, monitoring processes and intervening when necessary and administering image transfers.

This role occupies an important position in the operational management of the both trust's PACS systems. The post holder will work in a team consisting of other administrators and PACS managers and liaise with clinical, nursing and technical colleagues.

The PACS team is part of a wider Digital team consisting of over 100 colleagues across Liverpool Heart and Chest and Alder Hey Hospitals.

Job description

Job responsibilities

    • To take responsibility for the day-to-day organisation and maintenance of the RIS, PACS, & Radiology related systems and their data, running statistical reports daily to highlight any problems and communicate the results to the relevant parties.

    • To problem solve issues ranging from incorrect image store by Radiographers to multiple equipment or system failure by analysing multiple pieces of non-concurring information.

    • The postholder will be the primary point of contact for all RIS, PACS, & Radiology related systems problems, consulting the PACS Manager should the need arise.

    • To assist the PACS/RIS Manager in the formulation and monitoring of policies and protocols to support PACS and RIS implementation and its ongoing provision.

    • To develop and maintain good communication with all parties involved with RIS, PACS, & Radiology related systems including end users, IM&T and equipment suppliers and act as liaison between them when necessary.

    • To coordinate the annual service schedule for the DR equipment within Radiology.

    • The postholder will have in depth involvement in the development of new services implemented both within and impacting beyond the RIS/PACS team and the Radiology Department.

    • Monitor equipment performance and provide first line system support during normal working hours.

    • Develop (in conjunction with the iDigital) interface pathways between the PACS and other hospital computer systems to achieve integrated electronic patient records.

    • Assist in the production of access strategies to ensure that images are always available, wherever and whenever they are required.

    • Assist the PACS/RIS manager in ensuring that the Trust can maximise the benefits that the RIS, PACS, & Radiology related systems bring to patient care and to assist in the development of strategies to monitor and improve input data quality.

    • Co-ordinate, develop and maintain the radiology Intranet and Internet sites in conjunction with other department staff, the Trusts iDigital and Press/PR Officer.

    • The Postholder will be a source of expert knowledge in the transfer of data (both images and reports) between Alder Hey/Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital NHS Trust and all other organisations.
