Job summary

This post is an appointment for 12 months as a Clinical Fellow in Neurosurgery at Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible to the Consultant Neurosurgeons and Clinical Fellows in the team to provide the daily clinical care to the patients on the neurosurgical ward. This will include;

  • The examination, investigation, diagnosis and treatment of neurosurgical ward patients including clerking them in for admission - elective and emergency
  • To work as part of a multidisciplinary Team.
  • Attendance at outpatient clinics and theatre sessions as per Rota
  • Responsibility to manage the inpatients as part of the multidisciplinary team, including accurate and timely entry of the patient record and the review of clinical results and implementation of any subsequent treatment plans.
  • Advice and clinical consultation to other inpatient services consistent with level of training and experience.
  • Taking part in pre admission clinics, rapid review clinics as per Rota
  • Liaison with senior colleagues to ensure the provision of effective paediatric clinical services.
  • Contribution to Clinical Governance activities in the Department such as audit.
  • Participation in improvement initiatives in the Department e.g. implementation of National Guidance.

The out of hours rota is undertaken by the Senior Clinical Fellows which means the post holder will not contribute to an on call middle grade rota.

The Neurosurgery department provides surgical treatment for children and young people with brain and spine disorders up to the age of 19, and above if required. Our team performs over 600 surgeries each year and sees almost 4,000 outpatients, treating children across the UK and beyond.
