An exciting opportunity has become available within the integrated Alder Hey and Liverpool Heart and Chest Digital Service. We are looking for a talented highly motivated Medical Logic Module (MLM) & Report Analyst.
The role of the Medical Logic Module (MLM) & Report Analyst will be pivotal with assisting in the optimisation and development of our comprehensive Electronic Patient Record (EPR) at LHCH. They will adapt and customise core existing databases and repositories along with generic templates to extend the existing alert and clinical rule functionality and capability of the EPR System. All optimisation will be carried out under the direction of the Clinical Systems Manager
Main duties of the job
The individual will work with the Senior Technical Analyst and wider Clinical Systems Analyst Team to develop and refine MLMs (Medical Logic Modules) to enhance EPR functionality for Clinical Decision Support and other purposes to meet the needs of LHCH. This will underpin improvements in efficiency of patient care and support Standards of care, increasing both the Trusts prominence and standing as a global centre of excellence.
The role requires a strong core of IT and database related skills, but also the ability to understand and translate complex clinical scenarios into robust algorithms, that then generates flags and alerts. These will be based upon the data captured in the EPR and suitable MLM rules.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
o To develop, implement and support the optimisation of Sunrise Clinical Manager Altera SCM) through;
- Building templates, pathways and maintaining tables
- Setting up systems, scripts and / or algorithms
- Report development and writing, including ensuring that automated output is correctly received and formatted.
o Create medical logic modules (MLMs) for orders and clinical documentation under the guidance and support of the senior MLM Analyst.
o Present complex concepts to clinician e.g. communicating system function, database function and limitation and design options
o To assist with investigation and resolution of any problems reported by users of the core EPR systems.
o Work with key stakeholders to enhance operational efficiency of the system and associated operational procedures
o Assist in the cascading of new developments in the systems to Clinical Systems trainers to integrate in to revised training materials
o Support the Lead analysts and IT Technical staff with technical upgrades of the systems.
o Participate in system testing
o To work with the wider clinical systems team to deliver the optimisation through cycles of change (CoC), working unsociable hours
o First line support and escalation as required to Altera
o Supporting the maintenance and development of the Trusts wider Clinical Systems.
o Work with lead analysts to ensure accurate documentation of testing procedures for core EPR systems
