Job summary
A secondment / fixed term opportunity has arisen to lead the outpatient department for dental / max fax/ orthodontic and cleft services here at Alder Hey.
To promote an environment suitable for the care of children ensuring that the best interest of the child is paramount. To be part of the senior nursing team working and lead the Dental Outpatient Department to ensure a quality service is delivered to all patients. To ensure the efficient and effective provision of the outpatient dental service, in respect of providing nursing support to the patients, families and clinicians and the associated nursing/clerical duties to deliver this. This role will include the supervision and teaching of junior staff and the day-to-day operational management of the department.
Main duties of the job
Management & Leadership
- Demonstrate good leadership skills by being a good role model and champion professionalism.
- Acts as a positive role model through the provision of effective professional leadership and demonstration of competent and accountable clinical practice.
- To lead and develop the dental nursing services within the Dental / Max Fax / Cleft and Orthodontic department.
- Responsible for the clinical management of the dental outpatient department, ensuring nursing cover is in place to cover all outpatient activity.
- Provide excellent communication and interpersonal skills to receive complex information requiring tact and persuasion, managing barriers to understanding effectively.
- Exercise complex levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in the provision of clinical care.
- Work with Clinical Director and Service Manager to develop and manage clinical pathways to support the ongoing development of all our services.
- Support with managing any identified risk and governance issues within the team.
- Provide support in relation to PALS or complaints.
- To recruit staff and be responsible for their induction and training.
- Agree annual objectives and undertake PDR process with staff being line managed, ensuring that these reflect personal, professional, and organisational goals.
