Job summary

Alder Hey Childrens Hospital cares for over 330,000 children, young people, and their families every year. As one of Europe's biggest and busiest children's hospitals, we treat everything from common illness to highly complex and specialist condition.

In 2015 we opened a state-of-the-art hospital alongside a brand-new research, innovation, and education centre. Our hospital features 270 beds, including 48 critical care beds for patients in PICU, HDU and Burns.

Exciting opportunities have arisen for enthusiastic and experienced surgical nurses to join our amazing team on Ward 4A, we are a 32 Bed Unit that provides care to children and young people under Orthopaedic, Neurosurgical and Major Trauma specialties.

The ward has 6 Regional paediatric Neurosurgical High Dependency beds and 4 commissioned beds for patients having complex orthopaedic and spinal surgery. We pride ourselves in our close collaboration with therapist and medics providing the best multidisciplinary care approach to the patient's needs.

We are committed to ensuring our workforce is highly skilled to deliver this specialist care and offer new starters a full induction and education programme along with a period of supernumerary practice.

Main duties of the job

About us

Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care to over 275,000 children and young people each year. In addition to the hospital site located in the West Derby area of Liverpool, Alder Hey has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients' homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Alder Park building in the nearby borough of Sefton.

We currently have more than 4,000 staff working across our community and hospital sites. We're also a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to around 540 medical and over 500 nursing and allied health professional students each year.

The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.

Clinical Effectiveness

  • To assess, plan, implement and evaluate family centred care without direct supervision that is evidence based/ best practice
