Job summary
To organise and facilitate the induction and preceptorship of all staff bands into the Cath Lab Department.
In conjunction with clinical / management leads ensure that agreed patient management plans and standards of care are implemented, evaluated and adhered to, thus providing high standards of care at all times.
Participate in clinical activity to ensure self-competencies are up to date. - (50/50 split of clinical-Educational duties)
Actively promote the Trust wide strategy for Risk Management
Identify, maintain, and improve the quality of patient care through the facilitation of best practice and clinical benchmarking.
Actively participate in standard setting and development and maintenance of protocols and procedures required in the Cath Lab
Ensure nursing staff are competent in the use of equipment, adhere to Department policies regarding the cleaning, and repair of any faulty equipment.
Ensure full awareness of the Trusts application for study leave process, study leave policy and how these fits in with the Cath Lab Competency framework.
Ensure staff are aware of how to access Trust and Department policies and their responsibilities associated with these and the policies that relate to their individual role in line with the Nursing Staff Competency
Conduct formal teaching/training sessions as required.

Main duties of the job
Participate in the recruitment of Departmental staff when required.
Support the Departmental Matron and Business manager in the safe, efficient, and effective management of the Cath Lab Department
Maintain an awareness of the staffing establishment requirements for the Cath Lab Department
Work closely with practice educator peers in other divisions/specialities within the Trust Assist where necessary as a Practice Educators within the Trust to ensure standardisation of educational and clinical practice across the Trust.
Work in a clinical capacity with identified nursing staff and students to develop practical skills and link theory to practice.
Develop all qualified staff to be competent in circulating, scrubbing & preparation of valves were appropriate.
Work closely with Anaesthetic & Recovery lead & CNP's within Cath Lab, to ensure training, future developments and planned education targets are met within.
Work closely with the Education department and Universities to obtain relevant courses/training for staff and promote Cath Lab towards recruitment opportunities.
Manage the placements of pre and post registration students and maintain a current register of mentors.
Assist in the maintenance of a database of staff qualifications, study leave; progress reports etc ensuring yearly compulsory updates (drug assessments, manual handling, and fire) are maintained.
