This is an exciting opportunity for a physiotherapist wanting to specialise in respiratory care or wanting to move into the fast paced world of an integrated community respiratory service. This unique opportunity provides variety for the successful candidate working in a large multidisciplinary and supportive team. The service provides development opportunities and experience of supporting service development and innovation.
The Knowsley Community Respiratory Service (KCRS) manages a variety of respiratory conditions including COPD, bronchiectasis, community acquired pneumonia, asthma and ILD. KCRS provides MDT consultant lead respiratory diagnostic clinics and optimisation clinics, pulmonary rehabilitation, chest clearance and breathlessness management service, virtual wards, admission avoidance service, smoking cessation and psychological support.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of this roles includes:
Assessment for patients for the pulmonary rehabilitation programme, including running classes and the provision of education, providing digital rehab, community walks and gym session.
Providing physiotherapeutic input into the admission avoidance and virtual ward - including management of exacerbation of COPD and bronchiectasis. This includes 7 day working and overnight on call (telephone support only).
Acute and routine chest clearance support.
Assessment for nebulised antibiotics and hypertonic saline.
Breathlessness management assessment and treatment.
Breathing pattern disorder assessment and treatment.
Assessment and review of ambulatory oxygen requirements.

JOB SUMMARY

Provide supervision and education for physiotherapy staff, physiotherapy undergraduates and nursing & AHP staff.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
To provide a physiotherapy service to the Knowsley Community Respiratory Team ensuring high quality, timely and evidence-based care to patients.
To timely assess, plan, treat and review respiratory and physiotherapy needs of patients within the community setting, including the assessment of pulmonary rehabilitation and breathlessness management support.
To prescribe and deliver appropriate pulmonary rehabilitation exercise and classes in the community setting.
To provide advice to patients, families and other health professionals with regard to physiotherapy.
To support senior staff in service development.
To work closely with outside agencies to ensure service delivery.
To maintain patient records accurately and legibly in accordance with professional and trust guidelines.
Communicate effectively with all members of the MDT regarding the management of patients.
Supervise and monitor the assessment and treatment plans of junior staff & undergraduates.
To participate in rapid response service covering evenings.
To provide a physiotherapeutic service over seven days.
To provide appropriate ambulatory oxygen assessment and prescription of oxygen therapy.
To provide timely and appropriate assessment and treatment for patients requiring support with chest clearance and breathlessness management, including using appropriate adjuncts this includes routine and urgent, including appropriate PGD use.
To provide hypertonic saline and nebulised antibiotic trails as required with support from colleagues.
