An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and passionate individual to work as a Cognitive Behaviour Therapist in the Clinical Health Psychology Team, here at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.

Reporting to the Consultant Clinical Psychologist, the post holder will work as part of the Clinical Health Psychology team. You will be expected to manage your own caseload, negotiate client contacts, and demonstrate your experience of evidence-based practice to enhance your work. To fit with the demands of this role and the needs of the service, you will be able to adapt to change, work proactively and reactively in a flexible manner and work well as part of a team.

There will be opportunities to be involved in service development projects and there will be opportunities for innovation and creativity.

The post holder will be a qualified CBT therapist. You will conducting comprehensive psychological assessments and formulations, providing psychological therapies (one to one and group bases), attendance at MDT meetings, supervision of psychology and non-psychology colleagues in delivering interventions, and in the delivery of training as required.

You will receive clinical supervision and work within professional guidelines and within the overall framework of the Trusts policies and procedures.

Main duties of the job

To provide specialist psychological assessments of clients based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the clients care.

To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a clients problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the clients problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings. To sensitively communicate formulations and plan interventions accordingly.

To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions (including psychological therapies) for individuals, carers, families and groups, within and across teams, whilst adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.

To respond appropriately and professionally to emotionally distressing situations and to support others involved in such situations.

To communicate highly complex information in a skilful and sensitive manner with colleagues, taking account of sensory and cultural barriers to communication.

To adhere to all service and Trust-wide governance policies and procedures.

The Clinical Health Psychology Team consists of around 30 clinical psychologists, counselling psychologists, health psychologists, trainee psychologists, assistants psychologists and admin colleagues, working in various health specialities, such as cardiac, cystic fibrosis, respiratory medicine and Long Covid.
