Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a part time (22.5 hours) Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join the Therapies Department at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital which has been twice rated as Outstanding by CQC.

Main duties of the job

You will work within the occupational therapy team treating in-patient cardio-thoracic patients across the medical and surgical wards and critical care. You will work closely with the other therapy teams as well as the wider MDT. Full training and support is provided to fulfil competencies to work independently and there will be opportunity to develop skills with stroke and complex rehabilitation patients during their acute stay. You will deliver individualised assessment and treatment programmes, providing rehabilitation to facilitate safe and timely discharge. The post holder will need to be an effective communicator, keen team member and be able to use their initiative. Job responsibilities

To provide skilled occupational therapy for in-patients, within cardiothoracic surgery, chest medicine, and complex rehabilitation.

To be responsible for own caseload working without direct supervision as an autonomous practitioner, receiving regular clinical supervision and a programme of training

To undertake assessment and treatment of patients referred to the occupational therapy service ensuring evidence based care.

To maintain patient records accurately and legibly in accordance with trust guidelines.

To provide advice to patients and carers with in relation to occupational therapy.

To undertake competency training for specialist equipment.

To provide supervision to work experience students and support staff as required.

To provide advice and support to nursing staff regarding specialist occupational therapy equipment and interventions.

To collect & collate patient statistics and support senior staff in maintenance of relevant databases.

To participate in in-service training for occupational therapists and ensure maintain skills.

To support senior staff in the provision of training to other professionals.

To educate patients in self-management.

To be responsible for own time management to meet service and patients priorities.

To be aware of and comply with all LHCH policies and procedures.

To participate in clinical audit as necessary.

To participate in continuing professional development as per trust policy.
