Job summary
An
opportunity has arisen to appoint a Locum Consultant Cardiologist with
specialist interest in Inherited Cardiac Conditions to join our established
Cardiology team based at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. The appointee will
be joining an ICC cardiology team consisting of 2 full time ICC medical
consultants, 4 EP/device specialists, 1 ICC nurse consultant, 1 ICC nurse
specialist and 2 cardiac imaging specialists. We have one full time ICC nurse
consultant and one full time nurse specialist. The ICC unit is supported by the
coronary intervention team and a specialist cardiomyopathy surgeon.
There
is a strong link with the Genetics service with a Consultant Geneticist and 2
genetic counsellors present for ICC clinics at LHCH and the ICC MDT. Referrals
to all aspects of ICC have increased significantly.
The
specialist ICC service is delivered through outpatient clinics, an established
alcohol septal ablation service, device implantation and ablation of
arrhythmias. Cardiomyopathy clinics are run four times a week, one of these is
a specific HCM septal reduction clinic. The heart muscle disease service has
benefited from a true multi-disciplinary clinic once a month with imaging / EP
/ device / structural expertise. There is a sports cardiology clinic run in
conjunction with specialist echocardiography and cardiopulmonary exercise
testing support.
Main duties of the job
The
appointee will be joining a team of 2 dedicated ICC cardiologists and 8
EP/device specialists/ 2 device/ heart failure cardiologists with varying
levels of involvement in the ICC service. We have one ICC nurse consultant and
a further ICC nurse specialist. There is a rolling full time ICC clinical
fellow, this post is designed for post CCT cardiologists. We have a further 3 imaging cardiologists and
the coronary intervention team, and a dedicated separate ACHD team. This is a
new appointment to help achieve NSF targets and support the ongoing and rapidly
expanding Inherited Cardiac Conditions (ICC) service.
There has been a major increase in the ICC service in
recent years and an increase in referrals from within the region and from
further afield. There is a strong link
with the Genetics service at Liverpool Womens
hospital with a Consultant Geneticist present for ICC clinics and the ICC MDT.
We also
have the presence of genetic counsellors on site for 2
days/week. The heart
muscle disease
service has benefited from a true multi-disciplinary clinic once a month with
imaging / EP / device / structural expertise. There are 3 specific heart muscle
disease clinics per week in addition with the current dedicated ICC
Cardiologists and 2 nurse specialists.
The specialist ICC service is delivered through outpatient
clinics, an established surgical and interventional septal reduction service,
device implantation and ablation of arrhythmias.
