Job summary

An opportunity has arisen to appoint a fixed term full time Medical Photographer as detailed above. This will be within the department of Medical Photography based within the Burns & Plastic Surgery Directorate across our two hospital sites at Whiston and St Helens.

We are seeking an enthusiastic photographer to join our small but busy team who provide a comprehensive medical photographic service to our patients.

Previous experience in photography with a recognised professional qualification is essential. Clinical photography experience within an NHS organisation is not essential for appointment to this post but may be advantageous.

Duties will include the photography of all patients upon request in Burns & Plastics, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, all wards, accident & emergency and other departments. In addition to varied clinical work the post holder will assist in all photographic requests for the Trusts Media & Public Relations department.

As a professional medical photographer demonstrating exemplary standards of patient care, you will be expected to work both autonomously and as a member of a team. Excellent communication skills are essential as you will liaise regularly with patients, medical and other hospital staff. You will provide technical and professional advice to other staff members on issues relating to medical photography.

A Standard DBS is required for this post.

Main duties of the job

  • To have full working knowledge and assist the Senior Photographer in the delivery of a complete range of non-routine photographic procedures requiring skill, experience and innovation.
  • Assist in the delivery of the service which performs clinical, and research based photographic duties for the Trust using digital photographic equipment in locations throughout the Trust including Mortuary, Theatres, Ophthalmology, Pathology Laboratories, Accident and Emergency Department, Wards, Clinics and all other patient areas.
  • Produce high quality clinical photography and detailed records of associated photographic sessions. Manage own workload on a day-to-day basis to meet the demands of the service. Make valued judgements on the correct photographs to take in any situation, taking into account customer requirements and a wide range of technical, legal and social issues.

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.
