Breast Clinic Nurse

Job summary

Part Time 22.5 hours per week (3 days. Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays)

The post holder is responsible for providing pre and post nursing care/wound management to patients attending the Burney Breast Unit. The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and supervise qualified and/or unqualified staff. The post holder will develop the excellent wound management skills and be a clinically competent registered nurse. The post holder will develop specialised wound management skills over time to be able to provide a high standard of direct nursing care to patients attending the Burney Breast Unit. The post holder will be an effective communicator, liaising closely with all users of the service in order to deliver high standards of nursing care and wound management.

All staff nurses will support and supervise unqualified members of staff/ HCA's as this is a key component of the role keeping the clinic efficient and timely. He/she has a valuable role in enhancing wound management/practice and meeting the clinical governance agenda of the Trust.

An Enhanced DBS with barred lists for both Adults & Children is required for this post.

Main duties of the job

  • To complete any necessary documentation in accordance with Trust policy and NMC guidance
  • To act at all times in the interest of patients and their families ensuring that a quality service is provided
  • To maintain and expand wound management skills and to meet pre and post patient surgery wound management care
  • To work St Helens and Whiston if required.

The Act requires the post holder to attend infection prevention and control training on induction and at regular updates and to take responsibility for the practical application of the training in the course of their work.   • To participate in the teaching and assessing of students and the in-service training of qualified nurses and health care assistants and act as facilitator/mentor/preceptor as appropriate.

LINE MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise Health Care Assistants and students as and when required
  • Supervise Junior Staff Nurses once deemed sufficiently competent and experienced in role by Ward Manager if required
