Job summary
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, enthusiastic Consultant Haematologist. This is a whole-time post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join a dynamic haematology team at Mersey and West Lancashire NHS Trust (comprising of Whiston, St Helens, Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals) in a replacement role.
Applicants are required to hold Membership of the Royal College of Pathologists (UK or equivalent qualifications), to be fully registered with the General Medical Council, and to be on the Specialist Register or due to obtain their CCT within six months of the date of interview. CESR candidates must have written GMC confirmation of successful application.

Main duties of the job
The current haematology service, which covers both clinical and laboratory haematology, has 6 consultants. Whilst the consultant team do not subspecialise, each consultants takes a lead role in a subspecialty. The team show excellent collaborative working which creates an environment which is supportive and allows high quality, patient-focused care to flourish.
The job is for 10 PAs comprising of 7.5 direct clinical care (DCC) PAs (of which 0.5 will be for on-call work) and 2.5 supporting programmed activities (SPA); SPAs are divided into core SPAs (1.5 PA) for full-time consultants which is needed for professional activity to support revalidation, personal appraisal, personal job planning, mandatory training, continued professional development and participation at consultant and governance meetings; the other 1 SPA is non-core time, is objective based and is offered after the purpose and content is agreed between the consultant and clinical director; it should align with Trust objectives and have evidence of output.
There is a 5% uplift paid for the on-call commitment.

Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation, freeing up space for more unwell patients. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.
Specialist Regional Services
We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.
