Job summary

This post is for a Specialty Doctor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. This is a full-time post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the friendly & supportive O&G team at Ormskirk and District General Hospital. This post is particularly suitable for doctors who have experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and will provide clinical experience on the second on call tier.

The post is a 10 PAs position (including on-call commitments) on the Specialty Doctor nationally agreed scale. There will be opportunities to embark on new ATSMs as appropriate, and it would be expected that any successful candidate would take an active role in the service provision of the department. In addition they would be expected to have active participation in education and audit, which is a great opportunity to enhance your skillset.

The successful candidate will be expected to have full GMC registration at the time of appointment.Candidates without GMC will progress if shortlisted for interview, though will be expected to have GMC registration at the time of appointment.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be supported by, and work in conjunction with, the Consultants in O&G, working alongside the other second on call doctors, junior medical team and nursing & midwifery colleagues. There is on-call commitment on the second on call rota, so a minimum of 3 years O&G experience is required and a minimum of 12 months clinical experience including independent On Call activity in the UK.

This post is also suitable for senior trainees working towards their CESR. The department will support suitable and interested candidates with completion of ATSM based on the mutual needs.

Specialist Regional Services

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Southport Hospital

Southport Hospital provides adult emergency services, intensive care, and a range of medical and surgical specialties. Outpatient services are also provided at the hospital. The hospital, which replaced the Southport General Infirmary and the Southport Promenade Hospital, opened in September 1988.

The Northwest Regional Spinal Injuries Unit provides specialist care for patients from across the Northwest, North Wales, and the Isle of Man.

St Helens Hospital
