Job summary

The post holder is responsible for providing support to nursing staff in the management of children and families within Paediatric Continence encompassing clerical, technical and ancillary duties.

Assist nurses with procedures, the post holder will be responsible for the coordination of the continence product provision (this is part of continence support and full training will be provided) and will provide toilet training to children and families who are open to the service where appropriate.

The post holder will receive patients into clinic and provide them with the necessary information and advice as advised by the clinical staff and provide a high standard of direct nursing care ensuring patient dignity and Safeguarding is maintained. Be able to work under remote supervision.

The Paediatric Continence Service provides a wide range of specialities for patients from the St Helens & Halton area. This role is to support the Paediatric service in covering clinics from 09:00 - 17:00. The service provides treatment and coordination for a range of continence conditions including bladder and bowel, night wetting, and day wetting up to 19 years of age.

The post holder must hold a full, valid UK driver's license and have access to their own car to travel between sites across St Helens and Halton.

Main duties of the job

Clinical & Patient Care Responsibilities:

  • Assist nursing staff with procedures, patient care, and clinical assessments, maintaining privacy and dignity.
  • Coordinate and support toilet training, bladder scanning, and urinalysis for children and young people.
  • Support the continence team in managing Nocturnal Enuresis treatments, including alarm therapy.
  • Undertake continence product assessments with nursing staff and provide relevant advice to patients and families.
  • Document clinical observations and interventions, reporting findings to clinicians as needed.
  • Ensure consulting rooms are prepared and cleaned in line with hospital policy and clinical requirements.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Ensure patient records are accurate, up-to-date, and in line with Trust policies.
  • Manage patient intake, verifying details and completing necessary documentation.
  • Utilise IT systems to maintain patient electronic records and support clinical team needs.

Team & Service Support:

  • Work across multiple settings, including clinics, schools, and domiciliary visits.
  • Assist with the coordination and provision of continence products and provide training to parents and staff.
  • Support colleagues, students, and other healthcare providers in delivering continence care.

  • NNEB/NVQ Level 3 in Children's Care, Learning and Development or equivalent. e.g.CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education or BTEC National Diploma in Children's Care, Learning and Development.
  • Educated to GSCE level in Maths or English or equivalent qualification or relevant experience in a Health Care Setting
  • Diploma or equivalent appropriate qualification, e.g foundation degree, or NVQ3 Level qual or relevant experience equivalent to diploma level.
