Specialty Doctor in Urology
Fixed Term 12 Months
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual to work as Urology Speciality doctor at Southport and Ormskirk NHS Hospital Trust. The Trust provides healthcare to 258,000 people across Southport, Formby and West Lancashire.
The post would be ideal for those who wish to expand their clinical experience in Urological Surgery. The successful candidate will participate in the 1:5 non-residential middle grade on-call rota. The post holder should be proficient in flexible cystoscopy and minor surgery. The successful candidates will be expected to take a role in education for all the Urology junior staff and medical students. This is a full time post.
Applicants must be appropriately registered and licensed with the General Medical Council.
Main duties of the job
The Urology department has 3 established Urology Consultants, 2 Associate Specialists, 2 SAS doctors, 1 Specialist Registrar, 1 FY2 and 1 FY1 trainees. The Consultant Surgeons special interests cover the fields of: Oncology, Stones, Andrology, Female, Functional and Neuro-urology. Major pelvic oncological surgery is performed at the regional cancer centre and renal surgery at St. Helens and Knowsley Hospitals. the Trust operates across 2 sites and therefore the ability to travel across site is essential.
The post holder will be expected to support and collaborate with other practitioners as agreed to be appropriate with the Clinical director.
The post holder will be expected to carry out Ward rounds, out-patient clinics and will also undertake diagnostics and theatre sessions.
The job plan will be flexible. The post holder may be expected to change clinical sessions as service demand requires.
There will be an opportunity to attend more theatre sessions to cover for leave.

Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation, freeing up space for more unwell patients. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.
Specialist Regional Services
We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.
