Job summary
We would like to invite applications for the post of Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon. This is a new post and applicants will be expected to have broad general ophthalmology experience with a complementary subspecialty interest, preferably in Oculoplastics.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated medic to join an innovative and evolving department at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust based at St Helens Hospital, where clinicians actively shape services, we are the only Acute Trust to perform above the national average in every CQC indicator for quality of care and services. You will be joining a dynamic team of 8 ophthalmology consultants (including this post) and work in purpose built, well equipped, state of the art facilities. You will help us build on our excellent reputation for delivering high quality patient care and you will be instrumental in enhancing our capacity to deliver world-class Ophthalmology services.
Applicants are required to hold Membership of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (UK or equivalent qualifications), to be fully registered with the General Medical Council, and to be on the Specialist Register or due to obtain their CCT within six months of the date of interview.
CESR candidates must have written GMC confirmation of successful application.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to contribute to the delivery of the department's inpatient and outpatient activity plan. they will be required to see a mixture of Oculoplastic and general ophthalmology patients.
This post is offered at 10 PAs plus associated on-call payments

We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.
Specialist Regional Services
We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.
