Job summary
Applications are invited for this Locum Consultant post in General and Lower GI Surgery. This is a 6 month Fixed Term, whole time (10 PA ) post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.
Applicants are required to hold Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (UK or equivalent qualifications) and to be fully registered with the General Medical Council at the time of application.
Due to the short-term nature of the role and service demand, the successful candidate must hold full registration with the GMC and have existing right to live and work in the UK, at the time of application. Candidates who are not GMC registered or do not hold existing right to live and work in the UK, at the time of application will not progress through the shortlisting stage.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to work within a busy general surgical department. They will participate in a general surgical on call rota currently at the Whiston site which will, post expansion, stand at 1 in 13 and includes prospective cover.
They will provide elective general and advanced lower GI services and have a special interest in the area of benign proctology.
The successful applicant is expected to participate in providing a comprehensive pelvic floor and proctology service.At MWL we are a tertiary referral centre for complex perianal fistulas. Post CCT Fellowship is essential and experience in robotic surgery desirable.
The post also involves emergency surgery commitments, and the successful applicant will have one day per week dedicated to emergency general surgery on-call.
