Job summary
An opportunity has arisen within our Dermatology Service Consultant Team.The post is for a full time NHS Consultant Dermatologist, although consideration will be given to candidates who are planning to work less than full time (LTFT). It offers an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated candidate(s) to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team to deliver excellent dermatology care in Mersey and West Lancashire NHS Teaching Hospitals Trust (MWL). A specialist interest is welcomed.
Applicants are required to hold membership of the Royal College of Physicians (UK or equivalent qualifications), be fully registered with the General Medical Council and to be either on the Specialist Register for Dermatology or due to obtain their CCT within six months of the date of interview. CESR candidates must have written GMC confirmation of successful application.

Main duties of the job
The Dermatology Department is based at St. Helens Hospital and covers four sites: St. Helens, Whiston, Newton and Halton hospitals. Our busy department sees 8,200 new and 19,000 review patients annually, managing both general adult and paediatric dermatology cases.
We have a close working relationship with the plastic surgeons and see a high number of skin cancer referrals. Our service hosts the Regional Specialist Skin Cancer MDT. Melanoma patients are offered sentinel lymph node biopsy and enrolment into national clinical trials.
Presently the team comprises 10 Consultant Dermatologists (7.7 WTE) plus locums. The consultants are supported by 2 specialist registrars, 1 clinical assistant, 6 Dermatology Nurse Specialists, 2 Dermatology Nurses and Dermatology Support Practitioners.
Services offered by the department include general outpatient dermatology clinics held over four sites, minor surgery held over two sites, TL01 and PUVA Phototherapy, photodynamic therapy, patch testing and drug monitoring clinics. We also hold specialist multidisciplinary Skin Cancer, Paediatric, Vulval, HIV and Biologics clinics.
All consultants also regularly attend the Regional Dermatology Grand Round at Broadgreen Hospital as part of their continuing professional development. There are close ties with the Plastic Surgery team in the hospital.
