Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Children's Nurse to join our team on our Paediatric A&E department at Ormskirk Hospital.

The Paediatric Accident &Emergency department, has been rated good by CQC. The Department has undergone recent redesign and refurbishment and prides itself on providing excellent family centred care to children and their families in the local area.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Children's nurse, who is an excellent role model, self-motivated and committed to the delivery of high standards of quality care. A commitment to staff development and training is essential.

If you are an experienced Children's nurse with a background in acute Paediatric nursing, committed to providing high quality care and would like to further develop your existing clinical and management skills whilst supporting both senior and junior colleagues in a supportive team, this position could be for you.

You must have post registration clinical experience within a Children's Accident & Emergency Department environment or transferable skills and evidence of proven leadership in that area. The post is shift work, rotational to night duty and the ability to work as part of a team is essential.

Main duties of the job

Alongside the A&E department we have a Children's Ward accomodating 17 inpatient beds and 4 day case beds. This works alongside a 6 bed Assessment and Observation Unit.

We also have a dedicated Children's Outpatient Department, Children's Community and Outreach Team and a 10 cot Level 2 Neonatal Unit.

To assist in setting and monitor standards of nursing care with the Emergency department. To liaise with medical staff and other disciplines on the management of patient care. To be responsible for assessing, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. To ensure the patient care is delivered within the Scope of Professional Practice and Code of Professional Conduct. To promote the involvement of children and their families in the management and evaluation of care. To have shared responsibility for the delivery of patient care by all members of the nursing team on the ward/department. To maintain safe custody of drugs, ensuring that checking, witnessing and administration procedures are compatible with statutory and Trust requirements. To undertake appropriate training to expand clinical skills relevant to the speciality.
