We are looking for a Senior Library Assistant to join the Library and Knowledge Service (LKS) team at Whiston Hospital.
The LKS provides high quality evidence and resources, supporting health staff and students with their information and learning needs.
You will have excellent IT and communication skills to help customers use the library facilities, services and resources.
As part of the interview process you will be required to give a short presentation.

Main duties of the job
- The Senior Library Assistant will support the operational management of the Library and Knowledge Service (LKS) primarily in the area of managing digital resources. Your customer service skills will be required to answer general enquiries and instruct users in accessing online resources.
- You will work collaboratively with the LKS Team to improve services, adapting to change and continually updating your skills and knowledge.

KEY DUTIES
- Manage the online current awareness service. This includes setting up information feeds, monitoring websites and categorising and disseminating relevant information to library customers.
- Add content to the Library and Knowledge Service website and ensure it is kept up to date.
- Regularly develop content for social media applications to promote library resources and services.
- Manage the Wellbeing Knowledge Box service to deliver resources to wards and departments.
IT
- Use a wide variety of IT packages including Microsoft Office, library management system, website management system, information retrieval systems.
- Help users in accessing library IT systems including the LKS website, library catalogue and online information resources.
- Liaise with outside agencies providing library and knowledge systems to resolve technical issues.
User Support and Training
- Help with enquiry desk duties - answering general enquires, using the library management system to issue and return books, enrolling new members and providing a brief introduction to the service.
- Take part in induction for new library users. This may include formal presentations, attending events or ad hoc sessions within the library.
- Deliver basic training in the use of library facilities, services and online resources.
- Develop user training guides.
Administration
- Administration of NHS OpenAthens accounts.
- Collect and collate library activity statistics.
- Assist with document delivery and interlibrary loan services.
Clinical & Professional Responsibilities
- Ensure adherence to information-related legislation including copyright and data protection.
- Stay apprised of health library developments and legislation, attending appropriate courses and conferences and acquiring new skills as appropriate.
- Ensure all mandatory training is up to date.
