Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Health Care Assistant to join our hard-working, friendly team in the Ophthalmic Department.

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual, with effective communication skills and a passion for excellence in Patient Care.

The post will involve working within a wide variety of Specialist Ophthalmic Clinics including General Clinics, Laser Clinics, Macular Degeneration Clinics etc.

The successful candidate must be flexible in working between the hours of 08:00-20:00, Monday-Friday, subject to change within the Ophthalmic Service. Part Time Job Share will be considered

An Enhanced DBS with barred lists for both Adults & Children is required for this post.

Main duties of the job

  • Prepare and ensure all consulting rooms are ready for use prior to the commencement of specific clinics including cleaning rooms as per hospital policy and that all necessary documentation is available for use by the clinician
  • Utilising IT skills ensure patient electronic records are available for consultation and contain relevant information prior to the commencement of the clinic
  • Under the direction of the nurse in charge of the clinic assist the clinician in any patient procedures and chaperone patients when required ensuring patient privacy and dignity is maintained
  • Carry out appropriate patient care after appropriate training under the supervision of the nurse in charge
  • At the conclusion of clinics ensure consulting rooms are cleaned and tidied and ensure all necessary documentation is directed to the appropriate department
  • Carry out vision testing
  • Put away stores when delivered according to hospital policy being aware of COSHH
  • Identify that stock levels are correct and inform senior staff if anything needs to be ordered
  • Responsibilities for the development of teaching and training of any staff.

The Act requires the post holder to attend infection prevention and control training on induction and at regular updates and to take responsibility for the practical application of the training in the course of their work. Infection prevention and control must be included in any personal development plan and/or appraisal
