Job summary
This post is for a Consultant in Palliative Medicine. This is a part time (8 PAs) for Community Specialist Palliative Care Services in St Helens and Knowsley. The post holder will join the Specialist Palliative Care Team for St Helens and Knowsley with consultant colleagues working in Whiston Hospital and Willowbrook Hospice.
Applicants are required to hold Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (UK or equivalent qualifications), to be fully registered with the General Medical Council, and to be on the Specialist Register or due to obtain their CCT within six months of the date of interview.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will undertake the role of Consultant in Palliative Medicine for the Community Palliative Care Team across St Helens and Knowsley.
The role requires the post holder to conduct 1 Outpatient Clinic per week. This comprises 1 new patient assessment =1 hour and 4 reviews of 1/2 hour, these are conducted face to face or virtually according to need/patient choice. 1 hour is allowed for clinical admin time associated with the clinic. The post holder will conduct domiciliary visits (likely 150 per year) to patients in their own homes who require Consultant Medical assessment or review. Two formal MDTs weekly are Consultant led. The Consultant will attend the Integrated Service MDT weekly. The role is supported by 6.2 WTE nursing colleagues and 4 sessions of Specialty Grade Doctor (2 sessions at Senior Specialty Grade.) There is an expectation that the Consultant acts as a clinical supervisor for Clinical Nurse Specialists and members of the medical team including doctors in specialist training on attachment. The post holder will be supported by The Clinical Lead for Community Services. The post holder will be expected to work towards continuous medical revalidation, supported by annual appraisal and 6 month interim review. A clinical mentor will be provided from within the team or is available from within the wider Trust if the post holder chooses.
