Job summary
A full-time, fixed-term diabetes clinical fellow (research) is required from 1st October 2022 to 30th September 2026. Based at St Helens Hospital, the successful applicant will join a vibrant, multi-award-winning, research-driven team of diabetologists, diabetes specialist nurses, diabetes specialist dietitians, diabetes specialist podiatrists, diabetes specialty trainees and non-clinical staff delivering predominantly specialist diabetes outpatient care and patient and professional diabetes education to support diabetes care in the local population.
This role is education research focused. Applicants must have formal experience designing and delivering clinical education programmes in an academic setting and should have clinical experience in the care of people with diabetes. Registration with the GMC or equivalent and an educational qualification are essential.
The post will be based in the Diabetes Centre at St Helens Hospital, Merseyside. Duties of the post include undertaking a review of the diabetes patient education literature and devising and evaluating a modern, mixed approach (face-to-face and online) suite of educational opportunities for patient, carer and professional diabetes education.
Main duties of the job
This will form the basis of a PhD project. A significant part of the project will involve devising foot care education to meet recommendations from the NHS Resolution 2022 report on Diabetes & lower limb complications, so foot care experience would be an advantage. The successful applicant will ensure that all relevant team members are trained and updated in adult education to QISMET standards and will modernise our internal team education and training programme. You may also be asked to deliver patient-facing clinical care if the service demands it.
The Trust serves a population of approximately 364,000 and provides district general services across the full range of acute specialties as well as certain regional specialty services. The diabetes team has a long track record in patient and carer education and has numerous subspecialty services including insulin pumps and CGM, diabetes antenatal services, young adults transition care, specialist community outreach, inpatient services and a thriving specialist multidisciplinary diabetes foot team. The team's five-year quality strategy has a significant focus on health inequalities.
Candidates who do not hold existing right to live and work in the UK, at the time of application will not progress through shortlisting stage.
