Job summary
This post is for a Consultant in Paediatrics and Neonatology with a Special Interest in Diabetes and Eating Disorder. This is a whole time post (10 PA) offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals.
Applicants are required to hold Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, to be fully registered with the General Medical Council, and to be on the Specialist Register or due to obtain their CCT within six months of the date of interview.
Main duties of the job
This is a 10 PA appointment in General Paediatrics and Neonatology. The person appointed will be one of a team of 10 Consultants who share the emergencies on a rota basis (1 in 10 weekend and week day on calls/on take). The on call consultant stays on site at Whiston until 8.00 pm.

A £338 million (PFI) investment has re-built and modernised both Whiston and St Helens Hospitals, resulting in modern state of the art health care facilities for the treatment and care of patients. St Helens Hospital was completed in 2008 and Whiston Hospital in 2010. The hospitals include 887 inpatient beds with state of the art CT and MRI facilities existing on both hospital sites. Timely attendance at Audit meetings, Consultant meetings and the Paediatric Clinical Governance and management meeting is a requirement of the role. Deputising at meetings at the request of the Clinical Director is also an expectation of the role.

- Full GMC registration and on Specialist Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent at time of interview CESR candidates must have written GMC confirmation of successful application
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- MRCP or equivalent medical qualification
Desirable
- MD/PHD or equivalent medical qualification
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- General Paediatrics and Neonatology to manage/ supervise and/or offer expert clinical opinion on patients presenting to the Paediatric Department and Neonatal Unit. Must be actively involved in caring for neonates in a Level 2 Unit
- Skills acquired to safeguard children effectively
- Skills acquired in practical procedures appropriate to Paediatrics and Neonatology
- Evidence of appropriate teaching experience within the last 3 years
- Demonstrates ability to undertake robust audit/research within team structure within the last 3 years

- Evidence of relevant academic achievement e.g. degrees, awards in last 3 years
