Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Senior Clinical Information Pathway Lead within the Clinical Information Department, at St Helens & Knowsley Hospitals Trust.

We require a highly motivated, team player with excellent communication skills in order to negotiate with, and motivate all members of the team to ensure departmental needs are met. The post holder will be required to work on his/her own initiative and plan own workload and workload of the Clinical Information Team accordingly.

This is an excellent opportunity to be part of the on-going development of patient pathways through an information gathering route. A willingness to learn new skills and the ability to work as a member of the Clinical Information Team whilst communicating effectively with staff at all levels will make the job an exciting and rewarding challenge.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have:

  • Significant experience in a line management/supervisory role, including objective setting.
  • Knowledge of the Somerset Cancer Register, its functionality and working processes.
  • Knowledge of cancer clinical pathways.
  • Knowledge of other Clinical information pathways, including Stroke, NHFD etc.
  • Skills in the presentation and interpretation of information.

The post holder will provide a professional service supporting the clinical information agenda and encompassing the management of the clinical information projects and Care Navigator Team to ensure the collection and analysis of appropriate and accurate data whilst adhering to all relevant project milestones.

The post holder will work closely with the Clinical Information and Data Quality Manager and clinical teams on individual projects. He/she will work closely with team members to provide high quality, professional administrative support, ensuring effective communication and meeting strict milestones. The post holder will have proven team working skills and experience in the production of reports, documents and presentations. He/she will be proficient in the use of Trust systems

Job responsibilities

KEY DUTIES

  • Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the relevant Cancer Pathways, for example, Colorectal, Breast etc.
  • Build on work already established and lead on cancer projects and initiatives, such as Rapid Diagnostic Service, FiT etc.
  • Ensure robust processes in place to maintain project timetable.
  • Ensure that all data is captured for the relevant projects under the Clinical Information Department remit.
  • Work with the Senior Clinical Information Lead to ensure systems in place to accurately capture project data ensuring submission of relevant data as required.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication and liaise with multi-disciplinary staff, educating and supporting staff where appropriate.
  • Provide information to the Executive Lead and the Trusts Contracts and Commissioning Lead for monthly board report, where appropriate.
  • Attend Trust meetings to represent the Department and act as cover for the Clinical Information and Data Quality Manager at meetings such as Cancer Managers Advisor Group (CMAG).
  • Hold and attend regular meetings with the Trusts Directorate Managers and Clinicians for the Data Quality projects, where appropriate.
  • Keep up to date and with knowledge and experience of research methodology, particularly data analysis and what constitutes good data. Apply this knowledge by establishing evidence-based process mapping using specific tools to implement change.
  • Comply with the Data Protection and Caldicott and GDPR guidelines.
  • Maintain effective relationships and communication within local and national networks to enable efficient team work.
  • To develop links with the Trusts Coding Department to ensure that all procedures are coded accurately.
  • Provide support and advice on Cancer Projects to multidisciplinary staff across the Trust.
  • Work closely with the Trusts Clinical Leads and Directorate Managers for the different projects, providing regular reports.
  • To represent the Trust by attending relevant national and international meetings and conferences, this may include presenting on behalf of the Trust.
  • Analyse and interpret data and information relevant to Cancer programmes.

  • Day to day management of the Care Navigator Team, including attendance management, co-ordination of annual leave and operational/HR issues in liaison with line manager.
