An exciting opportunity has arisen for a well-motivated individual to join the Clinical Information Team. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a role to drive forward change within the Trust. You will create dashboards and analyse cancer and clinical information pathways to improve patient care and drive service modernisation. This post and the work undertaken will be instrumental in making improvements in a patients cancer pathway.
Key to meeting these challenges is data interrogation using SQL, creation of performance dashboards, analysis and production of reports. You will play a key role in scoping, producing and presenting these analyses to senior managers and clinicians.
Fixed term or secondment position for 12 months.

Main duties of the job
The Senior Cancer Information Analyst will join the Corporate Information & Analysis Team and work closely with the Clinical Information and Data Quality Manager on the provision of timely and relevant submissions, analysis and data interrogation. You will play a key role in future development of datasets in line with national mandates, communicating change requirements to a wide audience including clinicians, Information & administrative staff. This role will work on data extraction, data provision and reporting for the Cancer Information Team.

KEY DUTIES
- Ensure all statutory and contractual activity data are collected, collated, validated, quality assured and submitted to the relevant organisation relating to your area of responsibility in a timely manner, ie Cancer Waiting Times Data Sets. Ensure that data is accurate, signed off by a Senior Manager and submitted within agreed timescales.
- Produce and maintain a suite of reporting to support the delivery of operational, clinical, performance monitoring and data quality issues utilising the appropriate tool for the piece of work, for example, Power BI.
- Manage and manipulate data using SQL and develop complex business intelligence reports.
- Provide analysis and investigation of data to solve complex problems.
- Communicate the conclusions drawn from complex analysis undertaken and offer advice on the implications of the results.
- Provide business and operational information and performance monitoring reports to meet the requirements of the Trust. These reports can be used as templates for the Trusts reporting tool.
- Ensure high quality and accuracy of all analyses and report presentation.
- Contribute to the scheduled production of activity analysis and information for inclusion within Trusts Board reports, developing the content and format in response to changing organisational requirements.
- Assist the Clinical Information and Data Quality Manager to provide expert advice and support on data availability, data definitions and data validity in order to help managers interpret and analyse the data correctly.
- Work with other senior information staff to monitor data quality and identify areas that require improvement and analyse to establish cause; to escalate data quality issues as appropriate and contribute to improving data quality as required.
- Undertake complex ad hoc requests and validate other ad hoc requests undertaken by colleagues and junior staff.
- Cover for other Senior Clinical Information Managers as and when required
CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Proactively support information provision to address the evolving information needs arising from new agenda such as clinical governance, Care Quality Commission, Cancer Alliance Projects etc.
- Advise, as appropriate, on changes to national data sets or definitions and recording of patient information to communicate such changes to applicable staff/colleagues (both internal and external), so that appropriate action can be taken.
- Ensure data is available to meet clinical governance requirements.
- Maintain an advanced knowledge of data held on hospital electronic systems, which support national data submissions.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Produce and maintain comprehensive and up to date procedures and documentation.
- Ensure all procedures are tested and made available to other members of the relevant team,(i.e. Business Intelligence, Cancer Information) to ensure continuity of service.
- Contribute to the peer review testing of dashboards/reports created by other colleagues.
TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSBILITIES
- Deputise for the Clinical Information and Data Quality Manager on data and reporting as required
- Implement and manage new ways of working, introduced by senior staff, and cascade these to junior staff.
- Represent the department at internal/external meetings as required, particularly in relation to the Cancer Data Set, and to feedback emerging issues and relevant information/knowledge.
- Cross train team in key processes to ensure resilience/business continuity.
LINE MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage any information staff applicable to this role in line with STHK Trust policies.
- Hold regular team meetings with any staff under your management in order to communicate workload, priorities and to discuss any other issues.
