Deputy Ward Manager Haematology

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager to join us on the Haematology Ward. We believe our staff are our greatest asset and support our ward team to develop and grow.

Our ideal candidate will be caring, passionate and highly motivated to provide safe, innovative care in return we will develop you and support you within our speciality. Additional training will be provided in order to enhance your leadership and management skills. You will be well supported by the Unit Manager.

Ward 30 is a 22 bedded unit with a clinic and day unit attached staff rotate through the unit

We treat patients with chemotherapy, as well as other forms of supportive treatment for haematological conditions.

We are looking to recruit a clinical leader to deputise for the Ward Manager as required and support with safe delivery of care. You will possess excellent clinical skills, have experience of leading a team and have clinical experience within the speciality. You will be competent in cannulation and venepuncture, the management of vascular access devices and the administration of systemic anti-cancer therapy.

Main duties of the job

A team leader, providing clinical leadership and management support to the ward, developing, and evaluating best practice within the department.

The post holder will deputise for the department manager as required.

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training

Essential

  • 1 st Level Registered Nurse (relevant to area of work)
  • Relevant diploma / degree or due for completion within 12 months in cancer/palliative care
  • Chemotherapy administration and care qualification NM6955 and/or UKONS SACT Passport
  • Minimum of three years post-registration experience of which two years should be haematology nursing or equivalent

Desirable

  • Management qualification
  • Recognised teaching qualification

Knowledge and Skills

  • Relevant Clinical knowledge/experience of the speciality
