Heart Failure Specialist Support Nurse

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and motivated Cardiac/Heart Failure Nurse or Senior Nurse with experience of working within Cardiology/Heart Failure, to work within the Heart Failure Service at Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holders will form part of the Heart Failure Specialist Nurse Team in assessing and educating patients admitted with a primary diagnosis or problematic new or problematic secondary diagnosis of heart failure, within WUTH in line with NICE Guidance for Heart Failure.

Main duties of the job

The post holders will be responsible for assessing patients' suitability for attending the Heart Failure Day Case Unit (HFDCU) for both IV Furosemide and IV Ferinject, following Trust Guidance for both treatments. Whilst patients are in attendance, the HFSSN will be responsible for full assessment and of each patient to allow the Heart Failure Team to prescribe treatment accordingly.

Essential

  • 1st Level Registered General Nurse qualification
  • Current NMC Registration
  • Relevant diploma / degree or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development relevant to this role
  • Minimum of 3 years post registration clinical experience
  • Experience or previous experience working within the field of Heart Failure / Cardiology

Desirable

  • Teaching/mentorship qualification
  • Experience of working with the vulnerable ie elderly groups
  • Experience of implementing risk management techniques
  • Managerial / Leadership experience

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Relevant computer skills and ability to use word processing and E-Mail packages etc
  • Relevant clinical knowledge / experience in the speciality of Heart Failure / Cardiology

  • Good time management and proven ability to organise and prioritise work demands to meet deadlines with minimal supervision
