Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join our Therapy Team at Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (WUTH).

The posts are rotational across DME, Orthopaedics (trauma and elective), Medicine, Surgery, Acute Neuro, Neuro Rehabilitation (at Clatterbridge Rehab Centre) and our Unplanned Care Team (A&E and assessment areas).

The service also works with Community Partners and offering rotations in discharge to assess bed based services. We are committed to to exploring opportunities to further expand rotations available for staff to support clinical development

Main duties of the job

  • To communicate effectively with staff, patients, relatives and carers and other agencies regarding care and treatment in order to co-ordinate care and to ensure effective and appropriate planning and delivery of treatment.
  • To be managed by a therapy team leader.
  • To maintain good working relationships with all other staff involved in patient care.
  • To establish a rapport with patients in order to gain their compliance with the treatment programmes.
  • To communicate effectively with patients and adapt approach where there may be barriers to understanding eg deaf, confusion.
  • To be a caring, responsible member of the AHP service and to take a full part in the life of the Department.

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training

Essential

  • Graduate Diploma or BSc Occupational Therapy or equivalent qualification recognised by HCPC (or student Occupational Therapist with qualification pending)
  • HCPC registration (or pending)
  • Appropriate experience as a student or qualified Occupational Therapist
  • Previous care experience
  • Student placements in a range of core areas: Orthopaedics, Medical or Frailty Inpatients, Neurological Rehabilitation
  • Experience working as part of multidisciplinary team

Desirable

  • Member of Royal College of Occupational Therapists or similar
  • Active collection of relevant CPD in portfolio
  • High level of clinical reasoning with excellent theoretical knowledge underpinning practice
  • Demonstrate a good awareness of needs of patient and appropriate action to take
  • Demonstrate awareness of the roles of others in providing patient care and ability to work as an effective team member

Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic computer skills
  • Well developed theoretical knowledge under pinning Occupational Therapy practice
